Dr. Sophie Fobert

Dr. Fobert studied Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa and completes her clinical residency at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) this summer. Dr. Fobert has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families coping with a wide range of psychological challenges. She has trained in hospitals, schools, cultural centres, and community clinic settings.
Dr. Fobert strives to provide warm, individualized, and evidence-based care. She provides support for a wide range of presenting concerns, including anxiety (social anxiety, generalized worries, specific phobias, separation anxiety), obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders (ARFID, anorexia nervosa), trauma, mood/emotional regulation concerns, parenting support, as well as psychological concerns related to coping with a medical condition.
She also conducts psychological assessments to evaluate learning disorders, intellectual disability, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), gifted status, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for children aged 6-18.
Dr. Fobert strives to centre active listening, unconditional positive regard, creativity, playfulness, and genuineness in her work. She is passionate about providing up-to-date, evidence-based care drawing from a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERPs), Supportive Parenting of Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), as well as attachment-based principles.
As a former Vanier Scholar, Dr. Fobert values research production, dissemination, and knowledge translation. Her doctoral research explored the socio-cognitive development of children as well as parenting practices. She has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as a children’s book about emotion regulation.
Starting in September, Dr. Fobert will be working in-person at Cornerstone on Mondays and Fridays. She will also be available for virtual appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. She is a member of the BC Psychological Association and will be applying for registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC this Fall.
